Black Horse Pictures was founded to make the kind of films its founder once wished existed — honest, street-level stories with real teeth, told in the language of the people who live them.
Since the studio's debut, its pictures have been credited with revolutionising Nepali cinema through a realistic, dark, and comic depiction of the social problems that run beneath everyday life in Nepal.
Born in Kathmandu, Nischal Basnet is widely considered one of the finest directors working in Nepali cinema. Disappointed by the films of his youth, he set out to make something truer — and in 2012 his debut, Loot, became a blockbuster and a cult classic that "changed the discourse of the Nepali film industry."
He has since directed Talakjung vs Tulke — Nepal's official Academy Awards entry — and Loot 2, while building a parallel career as a celebrated actor and singer.
